Body Talk is the seventh studio album by Swedish recording artist Robyn. It was released on 22 November 2010, by Konichiwa Records. Robyn first announced in early 2010 that she would release three mini-albums throughout the course of 2010, however, it was later announced that a full-length album would be released instead of a third mini-album. The first two mini-albums of what was dubbed the Body Talk series, Body Talk Pt. 1 and Body Talk Pt. 2, were released in June and September 2010. While being a. Body Talk - Robyn. The wearily triumphant Dancing On My Own and the green-eyed Call Your Girlfriend speak to the longing that drives people to the dance floor Dancehall Queen and U Should Know Better provide the pulsing template for catharsis. If that's Robyn's artistic credo, then Body Talk is living, breathing, cybernetic proof. Melding dancehall with bubblegum pop, heartbroken love songs with hilariously catty weirdness, and euphorically catchy melodies with propulsive rhythms, Body Talk- which combines the five-song Body Talk Pt. 3 with, outside of Pt. 1's uncommonly wise Cry When You Get Older, the highlights from the first two mini-albums- is a deeply affecting pop record. I honestly don't care that some songs are on this and that some aren't. The fact of the matter is the ones on here sound incredible...this pressing is amazing. Happy to have it.
This will make you dance. Ok pressing, Dont know about the master, or the other pressings.
Chuffin’ Nora, this album is really good. Robyn is also quite a sexy lady too, but as I already have a lovely girlfriend of my own, I will have to leave her for one of you other lucky lads!!
Absolutely phenomenal pressing, there is nothing wrong about the sound of this 2xLP set. The track listing is odd upon first glance, but once you listen to it, it flows a lot better than the original Body Talk compilation. In an ideal world, we would have gotten a 3xLP pressing with every single track released for the Body Talk project. I find the biggest issue to be with the packaging, especially once you open the gatefold and it's just... black. There were so many shots from the Body Talk project that could have been placed in there, or, they could have just done what the original pressing had which was the track listing - mimicking the CD release. The black gatefold just feels like an afterthought.
After having this release for a while and initially enjoying it due to its limited nature and the thrill of getting a copy, I have gone totally cold on it. Primarily, the acoustic D-side isn't good enough to justify leaving out fan favorite tracks (justice for Include Me Out). Also, the odd re-sequencing of the songs makes this release ultimately feel inessential. Pretty disappointed with this release and how it was handled. Most fans would have been very happy with a straight forward re-issue and remaster of the original album.
Incredibly bummed that I picked this up only to find out that "Time Machine" isn't included, even though it was on the original LP tracklist. They should just release part 2 and part 3 EPs on vinyl, rather than these compilations that are bound to remove some of the best songs (Criminal Intent wasn't on the first pressing!). All this said, the packaging and vinyl quality are both top notch.
Very well put. I wonder if Robyn or her "people" are somehow aware that all we want is, as you said, a straightforward reissue.
THANK YOU, I completely agree. ????As someone who has been waiting a very long time for this release, I am flummoxed and disenchanted by what we got.
I really hope they release the remaining Body Talk tracks on vinyl in a near future. We need all these tracks on wax, and neither this one nor the unbelievle-expensive-and-badly-pressed original press has all the songs. This release gave me hope and was awesome. Let's wait next RSD, since this was one of the hot ones on 2019
a boxset with all the parts of body talk is the answer
Pretty great pressing. Nice and quiet. White looks nice. Doesn't have all the songs I would have liked to see, but I guess that's to be expected with this whole suite of Body Talk releases. Only real complain is the gatefold. What a wasted opportunity with the design of it. EDIT: So. upon a couple more listens...I'm thinking this would have been better as a single LP. The acoustic side is...interesting. But doesn't really warrant a second listen, IMHO.
My local record store (Happy Valley, Smith St Collingwood) still has a couple on the shelf for original price, heads up Melbourne folks!
Thank you sooo much for commenting that! Ordered that and a couple of other pieces of vinyl : ) ...but better still - I've now got another cool vinyl shop I can order from. Cheers!
Quite Disappointed this version doesn't have We Dance to the Beat.
For those that didn't receive a download code, you can email [email protected] to receive one. Do note that it took them about a week to respond.
the monster
I had the same problem, todvz. After looking around, the code worked here: https://redeem.thesoundofvinyl.com/
I heard back from them after a week with a code, but no URL. Did you have that? I wrote them but not sure if it'll be another week before I hear back. Thanks!
I hope one day her team or herself realize that releasing a boxset named body talk that contains part1,2 and 3 will make everyone happy and fix all these missing songs problems
There have been some available copies on hhv.de. Very good pressing. But I've had the bad luck to catch a copy with a big black corn on side D. This cause a big scratch on tracks 2&3 during packing and unpacking. Not nice listening to those tracks :-(
The sound quality is very good throughout, but the acoustic tracks sound particularly great on here. Side D is my favourite. I hope she does more acoustic tracks, I would buy an acoustic only release. There were a couple tracks I was hoping to see here, but I am happy with the effort put into this release. Thanks Robyn & team!
Some copies still available in Finnish 8raita.fi record store which also delivers internationally.
I saw it available in Amazon.us. does it got any stocks for sell through the us amazon website?
The swedish record stores bengans.se and hotstuff.se still have some records left.
Was able to order two copies from Bengans, thank you for the heads up!
Thanks for this Info, I just ordered my copy ...
Could someone that did receive a download code with their copy please post the website the album is using for the digital copy. I didn't receive a card in mine and I have no way of figuring out who to contact for the download code... kinda bumbed my copy didn't include it, being a diehard collector :/
It's a RSD release. The Sound of Vinyl, (an online record store) has nothing to do with this pressing. Contact the record label for the download code!
Despite my initial hesitation, this is a very nice alternate version of the LP. Apparently curated by Robyn herself, we get a 3-sided re-sequenced and shorter version of the Body Talk LP, followed by a side of acoustic bonus tracks. The sleeve is nice, but the all-black gatefold seems like a major missed opportunity considering the amount of graphical elements produced for the EPs and LP back in 2010.As others have said, quite a good pressing considering the usual plant strain of RSD. The surfaces are largely silent, I only noticed some slight noise on Side D when things got quiet. Mastering appears to be an in-house cut at Record Industry. It sounds quite close to the digital version, in a good way. There's a good balance of bass extension and top end clarity throughout the record, and a good sense of dynamics for this type of music. All around a winner for me.
digytal soul
Anyone own the 2010 LP and able to comment on how the pressing quality for this compares (aside from different tracklisting...)?
I'm not sure I have the best ear for this but I compared a few of the common songs on all 3 pressings, including the single LP Part 1. I think the new one sounds best, followed by the original, then the single LP Part 1. ...but they all sound great to me. I'm happy to have more songs from the project on wax and look forward to a boxset that finally collects all the tracks.
Would have been better if this contained all the songs of the 3 EPs. Some great tunes still missing on record.
brilliant. needed this in my life. bitter that time machine and get myself together are missing.
There was not a download card in mine either darnit
Mine is lacking a DL card - my pressing or erroneous hype sticker?
Mine is also missing the download card, kinda sad about that
My brother’s copy as well as mine both have the DL card missing.
I don't believe there is a US pressing of this version. Mine says Czech Republic, I'm fairly certain that one needs to be merged with this one. This album is awesome, and a dream for Robyn fans.
My goodness does this pressing sound amazing - details I never noticed in the digital version. Really stunning release all over. Oh, and there was a download card in my copy.
The hype sticker says this comes with a download card. However, there wasn't one in mine.
Don't know for certain, but my theory is that copies sent to US didn't get a download card. I think of Universal's back to black album series in Europe with download codes. Often these are also available in the US, but sometimes, Universal release a separate US version that is nearly identical including being pressing in EU, but don't come with a download card. One example of this that comes to mind is Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane in 2016. https://www.discogs.com/Maroon-5-Songs-About-Jane/release/9119320https://www.discogs.com/Maroon-5-Songs-About-Jane/release/9978079Could be wrong, but that is my theory. Doesn't excuse the false advertising that potentially happened here, just a possibility based on recent universal releases.
Yeah, same here no download card in my copy either.
I also did not receive a download card with my copy.
Too bad it's not all of the songs but so happy to have Criminal Intent on vinyl! Acoustic versions are beautiful but I think it would be better to have them on additional EP that having them instead of songs like None Of Dem and We Dance To The Beat.
Agreed. It's definitely better than nothing, though. I wonder why she couldn't just release the album as it was?
Sound quality is excellent on this edition. Detailed and dynamic, bass is deep but not overblown. The overall mix reminds me of the way the 'Honey' LP was mixed - rich and warm. It sounds like a different mix to the digital version. Only speculating here but it really does sound remastered compared to the digital version. E.g. tracks like 'Love Kills', 'Cry When You Get Older' & 'Fembot' especially benefit from this. These 3 tracks in particular, I always felt you could hear digital artefacts prominently (even with HQ files) on the digital edition. On this edition I'm hearing intricate details that I never used to hear before. Now they are layered on thick, deep baselines. It's a shame that some tracks got the axe (Time Machine, one of my favourites being cut). IMO the sequencing of the tracks has an odd flow (who wants to listen to 'Criminal Intent' after 'Dancing On My Own'?), closing the record with 'Cry When You Get Older' followed by an acoustic set of tracks on Side D.For those of you that are wondering, the version of 'Dancing On My Own' here is the version from Body Talk pt.1 and not the radio version which appeared on the 'Body Talk LP'.The acoustic tracks are quite lush but probably would've been better suited as a seperate EP. The real surprise treat here is the inclusion of the acoustic version of Stars 4-Ever, which is a beautiful and tranquil piano and vocals version of the track.
Thank you for the Dancing on My Own comment. I really don't like the Radio version of it so having it as the original is so awesome, I can wait to my vinyl to arrive.
Thanks for all these interesting comments especially for the Dancing On My Own version !
Damn, I'm so disappointed that five tracks from the original release are missing (Time Machine, None Of Dem, We Dance To The Beat, Get Myself Together, In My Eyes). Maybe instead of replacing them, an additional EP with these acoustic versions should be released
no pity for discogs sharks feasting on limited releases :)
2nd option, of course, that's why I stressed out missing tracks lol
Also Include Me Out if I'm not mistaken (and Itunes bonus track Bad Gal too).
So are you mad because you wanted to listen to those tracks or that you can't charge the same price as the original release? listing it for €150 lol
Too bad its not hte same set of songs as the original
Thanks Robyn for replacing my two favourite tracks with duplicates we did not needed and to change the cover to the worst of all three volume pictures. And thanks for taking the side of the scammers who will now sell the original vinyl even more expensive since they now know from you that fans will never get a reissue of this album.
You’re welcome! Sincerely yours,The salty side of the bed (where I assume you wake up)
Is there any source to confirm that this will see a standard black vinyl release following the limited RSD release on white vinyl?

She should have just made it a 3LP version and include every single track from that era.
