Yet another unnecessary and completely redundant re-re-release of re-recycled material, but reordered to fool fans into thinking they have something "new". Only Ralf Hutter remains in the band. The other three are replaceable scabs. And people bitch because KISS has only 2 replacement members. Ralf, now all alone, cannot write new material. Heck! At least The Beatles have more bootlegs than studio material released, and these range from half written, discarded unreleased material, to rehearsals and alternate takes or versions of known songs. Kraftwerk has nothing. And even at the concerts, how do we know we are not hearing pre-recorded tapes while Ralf and the 3 scabs just pretend to perform their "instruments"? Stick with the original albums or The Catalogue. I have the German one from 2009 and bought the English LPs. The red box set is shit.

The whole "3-D Katalog" thing seems more like a sad attempt by Mr. Hütter to finally erase any links with the past, thus re-interpreting the classics with the current line-up. In 1980, OMD wrote the song "Pretending to see the future". Kraftwerk now sadly sound like pretending never to have been there... Sorry.
Reemiel
Ralf Hutter is the "Gene Simmons" of the band. Isn't it obvious?
JUST DO IT
it's interesting that Kratwerk is now basically a franchise. Which you have to admit is very Kraftwerk. And of course they've blown me away every time i've seen them, but of course there's a strong spiritual connection there, in the cold light of day these recordings do feel a bit "meh", don't they?
Jugami
I think you're being rather charitable and believe that this release was motivated by nothing other than greed. I mean, do we really accept that this is even still Kraftwerk?!
BoberMod
This is a brilliant release. The sounds, mixing and energy are all amazing - especially on this Vinyl box set. I know many think 'is it worth it, again!'? But yes it really is. Really really nice sound and beautiful pressing. Somebody below rants on about production and mixing etc - he either has not actually heard this on vinyl, or has a cheapo system. And no, you can't buy my copy.
Fordredor
Keep your copy. I downloaded the entire box set for free from the internet. Decided it is crap, and a ripoff, and deleted the FLAC files from my computer. But if you want to sell it, write me and let me know how much you'll be willing to pay me to take it off your hands.
Molace
According to Kraftwerk's official website, the vinyl releases use a 24 bit/48kHz digital master.

Let's clear something: 1.- There's no such as 3D headphone surround (Even if there's a software "Spatial Audio Designer" for under ProTools for it). I don't detail it here.2.-Terrible production! Unbearably plastic softwares all along substituted with the real analog and digital synths they once used. 3.- The mixing is horrible. Kickdrums has no punch, middle and "high" tone carriers are tastelessly boosted. 4.- Most of the songs are overcomed in a hurry and they has lost their original charm of freely playing with the time and more with the timelessness. That was one of their strenght - it's simply lost.I think all the versions has just become worse with the time, altough they shows all the fine goods they never really satisfy the expectations. Most of the tracks were decorated, some sounds became more audible but all is like a bloody PC-software. All is OK, if they are concert versions but not from Kraftwerk. The direction since the software musicing is horrible. Tour de France 2003 was an absolutely amatheur studio-productionwise and it seems the direction stayed in the same trail and became even worse by now. Pity, I can't tell anything good about the release. Simply nothing. I'm sorry the most. As I see, they are censoring the reviews and ereases what they don't like. I'm curious when will this one be deleted.
Pooker
So, this is the 2nd time I received the new box set. The first time I ordered the english version, the second was the german version. Both releases have the same shitty vinyl, lots of artifacts like adhesive residues and noises like grinding sounds and crackling, which really disturbs listening to the actual music. It really upsets you especially when you listening to the quieter passages. I sent my box sets back, got my money back, because most of the records of today are inferior vinyl. Every third release I have to send back because of the issues above. It's sad and disappointing, so I decided to buy no longer vinyl until they have solve the problems. Blu Ray or CD are, unfortunately, the best choice at the moment. These "Retro times" will hopefully end soon.
Fast Lovebird
Why persist with CD or any physical media, in that case...?— Although I have a vinyl box set copy of the thing, I listen to The Catalogue on Tidal wirelessly (on Kef LS50W), and it's bit-for-bit perfect, you can float in a world of Kraftwerk sound. If Kraftwerk have decided to release this project in so many different formats (with a strong emphasis on 3D technology and headphone surround mix), it would be foolish to think that it's only a marketing decision, in my experience they always have a logical and artistic reason behind their publishing decisions. It may take a long time to understand that reason (e.g. Expo 2000, now renamed Planet of Visions, which in retrospect is very much in sync with this project), but there is always one.
betelgeuze
"What can be more "Retro times" than vinyl?"Answer: QUALITY PRESSING - that would be a very nice "Retro".
Mave
What can be more "Retro times" than vinyl? Maybe the phonograph cylinder but only just.
Taur
Why persist with vinyl? CDs were invented because of decades of this crap.
Thorgaginn
I say "no thanks" to this release. Will stay with the originals + Minimum Maximum. Have heard the snippets and the new recordings are even worse. Why can't Kraftwerk just release a new album instead of this? Much, much easier and simpler.
Rich Vulture
Ralf can't write anymore. Kraftwerk is greater as a team than as separate parts. For more proof, go and listen to the other former members' solo albums. Not one of them compares favorably with anything they released when in the band.
Helo
I saw them at The Royal Albert Hall last week - epic stuff! Bought this and the 2 x LP....
Shomeshet
You wasted your money. This red box set is 100% kraut krap.
Riavay
Hello, one question. If the albums were reinterpreted live and recorded the places indicated, how is it possible that there are two editions? One in English and one in German. Thanks in advance.
Zovaithug
They probably played the English vocal tracks backwards, stuck them back on the songs, and labeled them "German".
Castiel
They did this with Minimum Maximum was with the English and German versions having different recordings one in English and one in German. However, having listed / watched all the Blu-rays from the x4 disk deluxe box set, from my perspective it feels like they are the latest recordings "as performed live" rather than actual live recordings given you can't hear the audience. Meaning it's quite easy for them to switch the audio and video from German to English given the video content is mainly the images from the screens behind the band when they play live. Sound and video quality is fantastic though!
Andronrad
Hi, the music can be recorded at different locations and/or during different sessions
Yozshujind
Great box set with slightly reworks on the old tracks. Sounds great!Only one negative point: packaging. The box is so tough, you nearly can't take out the covers, or change to smooth inner sleeves for better protection.
Dugor
For all who want to catch up on the roots of EDM and/or Hip Hop and/or Electro. Or just Krautrock and/or electronic music in general. Or for all who already acknowledge their immense contribution: it is a must have. My entry point was Das Model (1978-12 years old, fell of my chair) and followed their music ever since. The only downside for me back then was the non-dancability; I needed to wait another 10 years until House & Techno music to appear in the clubs to make it whole. I went to the Computer World concert in Paradiso and was pleasantly suprised with the sound quality and so do the records sound too. Excellent. Of course you need the German version. Selbstverständlich brauchen Sie den Deutsche Version. The Radio Activity contains Japanese language.
MegaStar
The sounds comes clear and great out of the speakers and the complete box are a beautiful piece of the biggest electronic band of all time!
