Gone Is Gone is an American rock group formed in 2016. The band consists of Troy Sanders, the singer and bass player from Mastodon, Troy Van Leeuwen, one of the guitarists for Queens of the Stone Age, Tony Hajjar, the drummer for At the Drive-In, and Mike Zarin, a multi-instrumentalist, composer and founder of Sencit Music who appeared with Van Leeuwen on Sweethead's Descent to the Surface. An eponymous EP was released on July 8, 2016, and the band. Gone Is Gone, Echolocation Album Review. Chad Childers. Rise Records. As you might expect given their score work and associations with heavier music, the band's Echolocation disc is a fairly varied, at times atmospheric and other times heavy, collection of music. The album opens with Sentient, a track that could lead you to believe that the band might eventually rival the ebb-and-flow, quiet-loud excellence of Deftones. Album 2017 12 Songs. Gone Is Gone count members of Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, and At the Drive-In among their ranks, and these gentlemen realize they're not exactly going to out-aggro their day jobs here. While Gift and Ornament bring the hot riffs, the most striking moments on their debut are atmospheric ballads such as Dublin and Colourfade, which set aside the thrash to find Mastodons Troy Sanders offering up clean, seductive vocals atop reverb-smeared guitars. Gone Is Gon. Gone Is Gone - Echolocation review: Decent instrumentals are plagued by what is arguably the worst vocal performance I have ever heard. I had never heard of this band or their work until coming across their debut album Echolocation, which made it all the more surprising to find they had signed to Rise Records. Gone is Gone is unlike any band on the label not just label veterans like Crown the Empire and Of Mice & Men, but also more recent signees like Chelsea Grin and The Devil Wears Prada. Rise Records isn't the type of label to restrict themselves, but having this group on the roster feels uncomfortably out of place. Writers Adrian Utley, Beth Gibbons, Dave McDonald & 1 more. Backing Vocals Mike Zarin. Bass Troy Sanders. Drums Tony Hajjar. Album: Echolocation. Artist: Gone is Gone. Label: Rise Records. Genre: Rock. As modern heavy rock supergroups go, Gone is Gone draw their personnel from some of the best. Led by Troy Sanders of alt-metallers Mastodon, and featuring members of QOTSA and At the Drive-In, the quartet certainly have the collective experience potentially to make something special. In reality, their full-length debut, Echolocation , is occasionally impressive but mostly inconsistent. There is a discernible effort to play around with both loud and quiet dynamics, but the balance is never quite struck. The result is a heavy batch of driving tunes worthy of each member's origin stories
